President Goodluck Jonathan on Facebook, but…

President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has been making waves among the young Nigerian populace on social networking website Facebook in recent times. Through a Facebook page opened on 28th June 2010, he has systematically been sharing his belief in Nigeria and his dream for Nigeria. Things seem to be looking very good for him so far. For a page unleashed barely a week ago, he has done tremendously well with followership as he has already attracted 65,783 people at the time of writing. On 28th June 2010, he wrote:

Today, in fulfillment of the promise I made at the 26th convocation of the University of Port Harcourt on Saturday, 15 May 2010, I have created a facebook fan page to interact with Nigerians. As I said on that day, there is an unchallengeable power of good in the Nigerian nation and her youth and through this medium I want Nigerians to give me the privilege of relating with them without the trappings of office. A snapshot of President Goodluck Jonathan's page on Facebook
A snapshot of President Goodluck Jonathan's page on Facebook as at 4th July 2010.

Not only are his brief messages read with rapid attention, but thousands of Nigerians are freely giving their feedback to his messages as well. Much as his messages potray him as a humble man with a genuine drive to serve his country Nigeria, it obvious that this is a calculated attempt to win the heart and minds of Nigerians who are active on Facebook, in a bid to secure electoral victory to continue in the Office of the President of Nigeria after Election 2011. Whilst there is nothing wrong with him standing to be elected or with him driving his way into the hearts of Nigerians, one cannot help wondering if any drastic & positive change can really come out of his party – People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Yesterday 3rd July 2010, President Jonathan wrote on his Facebook page and I quote:

I want to assure you that your feedback and comments on this page are important. I read them and they have influenced government’s policy. On Monday, a young Nigerian named Tuokpe Onuwaje who is resident in California made a comment on this page expressing disappointment that though California has the 7th largest economy in the world Nigeria does not have a consulate there yet we maintain one in Atlanta, Georgia which has a smaller economy. This youth further informed me that Nigeria had a property in California which was abandoned in the 80s. Upon receipt of this information, I instructed the Nigerian Ambassador to the U.S to visit the property immediately and report back to me with a view to reopening our consulate in San Francisco California. I am pleased to tell Tuokpe Onuwaje and all fans of this page that the visit was concluded today. I am also looking at other request made here and will within available resources and time take action or respond to your questions. Thank you. GEJ

An objective mind would ask how much a Facebook page launched less than a week ago could have influenced his government’s policies. One can overlook it and understand that a man eager to win a Presidential election would say & do just about anything. After all, then-candidate Barack Obama said so many lofty things when he was seeking election and now seems much more moderate now that he is in the hot seat and drowned by reality. As good as President Jonathan’s intentions might be, some of his recent actions do not leave one convinced that he is out to influence any radical change in Nigeria. How does one explain some of the funny characters he would soon be decorating with national honours?

Nonetheless, his attempt to reach out to Nigerians directly is laudable. If only he would keep reading as many comments as time would allow, he would surely be on the right path as he would be reading directly from some of the people he is leading. I am assuming he has a mind that can mentally filter out the sycophantic comments though. As to the sustainability or his real intentions, time would tell.

  1. Nice to observe the older generation is waking up to the massive influence of the internet. Lets hope this will lead to a little cash injection to help further develop our local tech and entreprenurs back home. High time we had our own silicon valley.

Social media did help Obama a lot. Lets see how Jonathan will reap the same fruits.

  2. THE “SOFT PEDALLING” ON NIGERIA’S SUSPENSION FROM INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL

Greetings Mr President. I must first of all thank you for the immense opportunity you offered Nigerians by coming on FACEBOOK. it has given us an indication that you are truly educated and ready to break from the secretive traditions of Nigerian rulers before you.

If you ask me, that is where you have earned real credit, but it ends there.

I say so because you are yet to prove that you have the guts to confront the internal and extraneous forces of darkness that have held this nation captive since Independence.

I wouldn’t blame you so much because anyone who has keenly followed your ascension to power would know that your hands are tied. Tied, because of how you emerged as runningmate/deputy governor to Diepreye Alamieyeseigha in Bayelsa state. Tied, because of the compromising but voiceless role you played in the build-up to Alamieyeseigha’s impeachment. Still, they are tied because it is an open secret that the “living terror” of Nigerian politics Olusegun Obasanjo bamboozled several interests to bulldoze you and the late Umar Yar’adua into Aso-rock. Those of us who know, have chosen to let “sleeping dogs lie”, for, in the words of Professor CHINUA ACHEBE; “those who had their kernels cracked for them by benevolent spirits should not forget to be humble”

You may chose to ignore this, or join issues with me, but I put it to you that you are not serving the interests of the largely traumatised and pauperised Nigerian masses. Try to prove me wrong, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, your decision to do an “about turn” on the massively applauded decision to suspend Nigeria’s participation from International Football for two years was taken after internal and external influences pressurised you to do so.

Your media mouthpiece (Ima Niboro) said your initial decision to suspend, was taken after you carefully studied the report of the Presidential Task Force on Nigeria’s 2010 World Cup.

But Nigerians were never told and the PTF did not tell us that the country would reverse its decision. Was it the FIFA threat and ultimatum that made you change your mind? Or you capitulated as it were, to pressures from within?

Definitely if you and the PTF had worked out an elaborate and purposeful programme to revive our football, someone should have compelled FIFA to listen to us. We know about high-level corruption going on in FIFA circles and it makes no sense being cowed by their intimidations and threats.

Mr President, you’ve lost it. Nigerians cannot help but look back with nostalgia to the military regime of General Murtala Ramat Mohammed of blessed memory. One cannot but recall Murtala’s heroic stance, when he dared local and international influences to state that Africa was the centre-piece of Nigeria’s foreign policy.

He pushed it through by marshalling every instrument available to dismantle apartheid in South Africa and neo-colonial interests in Nigeria and Africa.

A big pity though, that by our primitive and timid dispositions, we allowed reactionary forces to kill him in cold blood. Same goes General Tunde Idiagbon. These were the real patriots.

You still have between now and May 2011 to prove to Nigerians that you are a leader, (not a ruler). We are taking stock for posterity

  4. Just to say congratulations for what you are doing to bring Nigerians back to the path of sanity, which no doubt will guarantee us and our observers the reliabilty and hope for the growth anticipated for our country Nigeria. To say more that I have in my capacity as a citizen made contributions that if studied carefully and critically, will go a long way for us in Nigeria – particularly the zoning matter. You can see all these on the web. Thank you.

  5. I want the president to be given free hand to operate and make it compulsory to state Governors to implement the new minimum wages

  6. Your Excellency!

With profound respect and a rare toga of humility, the executive council members of NANS bring you greetings and commend you on positive governance.
Since the inception of your office as the President of this Nation, we have witnessed institutional development, prevalence of altruistic policies and administrative efficacy. Your love for this nation is also palpable from your patriotic strides even at the international scene.

On your recent visit to Akwa Ibom state, I must state categorically and unequivocally that the factional NANS President that was introduced to you was sponsored and stage-managed by Governor Akpabio. His misrepresentation is antithetical to the aspiration of all the Nigerian students and not in accordance with the principles of Democratic governance.

This explains why this message becomes so pertinent from the office of the authentic NANS executives to Your Excellency. We also wish to bring to your notice that we are in complete alignment with your visit to the state bearing in mind that the NANS President is also from that state.

Finally, we assure you of our unalloyed and absolute loyalty in your presidential campaign and reaffirm our support for your administration.

    Thanks and GOD bless.

    Vice President (External Affairs), NANS.
    University of Abuja.

  7. This is another day, week, month and year in NIGERIA. Although we are all happy that for the very first time in NIGERIA, we are having an elite that has feelings for the masses.
Sir, it is good in saying rather than done but sir we NIGERIANS believe in you especially we the youths of the LAND. Please dont let us down.

  8. Dear Mr. President, Member of FEC, Senators, Representatives, Governors, e.t.c

Independent fund, our yearly incentive is a yearly incentive which should be seen as country attire for celebrating our yearly independence.

Ever since I was born and figured out, Nigeria my own home land celebrates independence on every October 1st, since 1960 of independent year, we Nigerians as citizens have not enjoyed any incentives or earn or receive a dime from every budgeted cash mandated for independence.

I feel strongly that the recommended fund should be share among the whole Nigerians, while these money is shared to Nigerians, so that people can rejoice anytime independence is around the corner, WHILE disbursing this fund to all Nigerians, INEC can used opportunity to make people fully register on their voters registers, because they know immediately they are having there allocation, there are automatically registered, moreso, what is Nigerians population and the amount of fund allocated for Independence.

Nigerians will love to partake in the independence celebration, only if some funds are disbursed to them, because any celebration Nigerians does is only meant for the Top people which is not suppose to be so, However are only the Top/eminent or foreign officials of visitors entitled to enjoy in this fund of independence or are they only the people that makes us a country call Nigeria..

If Nigerians received part of this funds they will be willing to register at all cost for the 2011 election, these should be for Nigeria citizen as yearly incentives and a way of registering people population and registering people into the 2011 voters register for credible poll other than to just lavish the fund for visitors, top eminent and people who wont Solve Nigeria’s problem.

Mr. President, INEC president, think twice, and make ace wile the sun shine brightly.

Spend wisely; a word is enough for the wise.

  9. Goodday our amiable President Goodluck Jonathan. I am seizing this opportunity to appreciate God for using you so far.
Please be kind enough to look at the issue of a new Comptroller-General for Nigeria Immigration as a matter of urgency. Public Service Rules say 35/60 years which ever comes first. Mr. Udeh Chukwurah Joseph has fufilled this. Why this continuous exention of his tenure when there are other capable hands to continue the job? This is a very bad precedent which will pose future problems for the Service and will also promote corruption. Mr Udeh has not benefitted the Service and should not be allowed to continue his marodonic regime.
Thank you sir, may God who entthroned you give the kind of wisdom he gave brother Solomon to steer the ship of Nigeria.

  10. your ecellency i will want u to do sthing abt how landlords increase their rent in Abuja without considering the avalability of basic amenities e.g. in FHA Lugbe an estate made for low income earners a 2 bedroom flat goes for 600k and there is no water or good road in the estate ps do what fashola did in lagos concerning this matter or provide a cost of living allowance for civil servants living in Abuja or else a level 12 officer who earns 53k would have to save up the whole money for house rent and eat sand.

  11. Praise Almighty God for giving us a leader that we can communicate with. But my fear is the sycophants surrounding leaders in Africa.
From day one of his assignment, he fired former Minister of Justice to pave ways for expected changes in our lives. Up till now, we are still waiting for the outcome of names and amount taken by some Nigerians in Halliburton bribery scandal. Do we need to wait for US government to threaten us of serious consequences if Nigeria fails to investigate and punish looters calling themselves leaders?

  12. I thank you my President for providing us with the opportunity to reach you through the Facebook.

Meanwhile, I can only ask you to remain focused and make a good by managing Nigeria as God’s property.

It is my prayer that you succeed. Please add my name as one of your Facebook pals. I’d be grateful.

    Thank you

    Sam Iroanusi.

  17. I personally would want you to context in the next presidential election.
But the truth is that, most Nijas have not seen anything tangible done by you. I suggest, you tackle corruption first by bringing all involved to face a public condemnation, which is by hanging.
Please, i would also want all you to always listen to political platform on RAY POWER FM daily by 9:15am. Here you can hear our voices.
Please, ask God for every of you undertakings.

I wish you the best of leadership.Thank you for the privilege given us to give our individual opinion.
    God bless Nija

  18. Mr. President, I congratulate you for being focused all these while with all the noise around you to declare for 2011 presidential elections. May God continue to direct you on how to lead this Country alright. Sir, concerning the Nigeria @ 50 celebrations,I will like the organising committees to look inward and find out how it will impact the lives of the poor masses,if not there is no need to celebrate. The masses had been suffering in the midst of plenty and we need a change. I pray God will use you to effect the needed change in this great Nation.

  19. Dear MR. PRESIDENT
I appreciate you efforts since you took over as President some 100 days ago. I believe you will change the nation with all you have mapped out to do in the remaining year or so and God willing in the subsequent terms of office.
I bring to your attention an erosion control and water irrigation project that was poorly done (2002)and the dam collapsed just a year afterwards; in POSAT -FIER district of Pankshin LGA of Plateau state. Uptil now nothing has happened.
Kindly look into this and other similar uncompleted projects in the land where the true people live.
Wishing you all the successes in all you do

    • Sir, Ihave not seen the reply to the above request, my people are looking up to your government on this.
      Thank you.
      Gideon Tokkit

  22. MR. PRESIDENT WHERE IS THE VENUE OF THE ROAD MAP ADDRESS ON THE POWER SECTOR SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE ON THE 26TH OF AUGUST 2010?.IS THE VENUE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC OR IS TI BY SPECIAL INVITATION?

  23. I thank you Mr. Pressident for the rare opportunity you have given to Nigerians to talk to you on Facebook. it shows that you are focus and you are a listening leader. Please I would want to draw your attention to the Unpaid gratuity and severance package promised by the former CBN Governor Prof. Chales Soludo before the last banking consolidation exercise 2005. From 2005 till date the ex-staff of the 14 banks that could not meet up with the 25billion naira recapitalization fund are still in starvation and frustration. kindly use your good office to help out these helpless Nigerians.God will help you to serve us.

  24. MR PRESIDENT MAY THE GOOD LORD THAT PUT YOU IN POWER ALWAYS DIRECT YOUR AFFAIRS. MAY HE NEVER LEAVE NOR FORSAKE YOU. PLEASE ALWAYS RELY ON GOD. THE NIGERIAN YOUTHS ARE SOLIDLY BEHIND YOU. 25. Mr. President, the issue of the presidential jet is staining your image. There are alot of issues to address with that huge amount of money instead of buying new jets, the old ones can be repaired and maintained properly. The masses are dying of hunger, no job opportunities, the pensioners are not paid, even the civil servants’ wage increment have not been implemented. Sir, pls do something tangible for this nation as you are there,so that your name will remain indelible in sands of time.May God continue to direct you.

  28. President Goodluck, Nigeria needs power. There is a possible way forward for us to achieve comfortable power supply in one year and proceed forward to the accomplishment of the complete standard we need within four years. We can change our country in one year, bring all things to normalcy for the approval and restoration of new development in peace and give our people the confidence of trust and development for the reality of our 7–Point Agenda and our Vision 20:20. All we need to do is for us to use the abundance of resources we have within us to accomplish the result we need by the company of good people and take our place in the international community by merit.

Thank you and God bless you and keep you safe for the future.

  29. President Goodluck, the good fight of faith and peace for 2011 presidency is not your fight, but the fight of God Almighty. GOD SAVE PRESIDENT GOODLUCCK.

  45. My Dear President,

Thank you for enlightening the nation on the half – truth of some ‘apostles’ of zoning of the presidency in Nigeria by PDP.

You see ignorance of the truth is still the chief weapon of all dubious so called elites to keep their silent majority in the dark. And this is why only a very privileged few who have access to the truth are really free indeed. No wonder the Bible says that you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.

Please instruct what you recently revealed about the no zoning agreement ever reached, documented or signed by anyone in PDP in your Facebook for the benefit of the nation so that those who are genuinely labouring under a misconception would retrace their steps.

Please accept my congratulation in advance for clinching the presidential post despite all man made schemes to the contrary.

  48. My dear President,

We echo for you ! Go on because God has miraculously placed you there, nothing is going to hinder your next chance of being in that Office. I believe when God said “‘ THE GOVERNMENT OF THE EARTH IS IN HIS HANDS,AT HIS OWN TIME,HE WILL RAISE THE RIGHTFUL LEADER” deep inside me,I know you are the one. Let your actions speak louder than voice.

However,we plead for permanent power supply as most, in fact many Countries of the World have,we should not be living on past glories,we should maintain our stand as the Giant of Africa in the Comity of Nations. You can do this without looking back with the Help of God,we know you are determined to take us higher. God be with you always as you march forward in taking Nigeria to greater heights.

    Mike O.

  49. FROM NIGERIA

  50. I want 2thanks my president for giving nigerians this great change 2relate with directly&2ask him this simple questions.(1)for how long wil it take government 2give us@least 18hs electricity.(2)for how long wil it take government 2complete lokoja-Abuja road(3)for how long wil the descrimination between the polytechnics&university ends(4)why is the efcc not performing as it was during ribadu’s tenue.(5)when should we be expecting new local government if the creation of state wil not work.

  51. I thank God for remembering us, by giving us Goodluck as president. Mr. President sir, since we are running true federalrism, please sir, look into the affir of the state public servants and save our souls. We are downcasted, and our salary is nothing to write home about, and we live in the same place and buy from the same market as the federal public savernts.I will not forget to congratulate you in advance for 2011 victory, ride on Mr. President.

  52. Mr president, i am really short of words of the type of adjective i will use to qualify your magnanimous style of leadership, but despite that, i must say that you are a political technocrat and a statesman; above all, you are always down to earth to every Nigerian. May i also use this opportunity to implore you Mr President to come to the aid of the south-easthern Universities so as to ensure quick resolve of the lingering strike embarked upon by ASUU in the south-easthern region because of the obvious insensitivity of the south-easthern governors to the plight of their university lecturers and students.

  53. Mr PRESIDENT PLEASE COME TO THE AID OF THE STAFF AND STUDENTS OF LADOKE AKINTOLA UNIVERSITY,OGBOMOSO,OYO-STATE,THE FUTURE LOOKS BLEAK DUE TO THE LINGERING CRISIS,THE WISDOM U NEED THE LORD WILL GIVE U.

  54. The meaning of Nigeria as a nation should be defined.Secondly, the aim of the nation should be defined. These should be made known to all Nigerians(home & abroad)and in return the so called citizens will make their stand known thus;if they believe in the nation or not.
This will serve as a pedestral towards building a great nation.
This is the one & only problem we have, that’s why the so called citizens believe most in their different ethnic than the Nigerian so called nation.

  55. I READ RECENTLY IN THE PUNCH OF 31ST OCTOBER 2010 ABOUT THE CLOSURE OF 834 INDUSTRIES BETWEN 2009 TO DATE WHICH MAKE ME WEEP FOR OUR DEAR COUNTRY. IF EACH OF THESE COMPANY EMPLOY 50 PERSONS THIS MEAN THAT ABOUT 41,700 PEOPLE HAD BEEN THROWN BACK TO THE LABOUR MARKET TOGETHER WITH THEIR DEPENDANTS. THIS IS ONE OF THE REASON WHY YOU SHOULD DO ALL WITHIN YOUR POWER AS GIVEN TO YOU BY THE GRACE OF GOD NOW TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS ISSUE OF POWER SUPPLY IS SERIOUSLY PURSUED TO LOGICAL CONCLUSION.

I KNOW THAT MANY ARE OUT TO FRUSTRATE YOUR EFFORT BECAUSE OF POLITICS BUT THIS ISSUE IS BEYOND ISSUE OF POLITICS.
ANYTHING YOU DO NOW WILL SPEAK VOLUME AFTER YOUR EXIT FROM OFFICE
GOD WILL SURELY GIVE YOU THE COURAGE AND ABILITY TO STAND FIRMLY AND SOLVE THIS AGE LONG PROBLEM ONCE, SO THAT WE CAN MOVE FORWARD.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA, GOD BLESS YOU.

  56. Goodluck Jonathan is a listening and committed leader. He should remain focused towards moving the nation forward. The minimum wage issue should be given accelerated consideration since Mr.President has promised to forward the bill 2 national assbly. U are bound to be criticised. Keep on doing your best. Happy birthday. Remain blessed. Chief K. A. Mutairu . Ogun State

  57. As a patriotic Nigeria, I strongly believe time has come. I pray to Almighty Allah to prevail over instruments of devil among us and guide them rightly. And I want to appeal to those who think the country belongs to them and they can do whatever they want to fear God.
Fellow Nigerians, let us chose continuity in our leadership. As a bonafide Nigerian, all patriotic Nigerians should support President Goodluck Jonathan in the coming election.

For Mr. President, I want tell you that your first action after assumption office won you my unshaking support. I am also happy that other Nigerians believe that you are a listening and committed leader. In this regards, I pray for your success.
But I want to remind you of shameful position corrupt leadership put our great country. It is embarrassing that Nigeria, a member of OPEC has no single commercial aircraft. What honour do we think the world will give us from President fleet when the country airports are meant for foreign airlines? Our roads are so bad that any efforts on attracting investors to the country will bring very little result. Responsible people know there is no development without electricity not to talk of serious legislation on accountability. Education is also not given required attention in this country.

    His Excellency,
    Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR,
    Aso-Rock Villa,
    Abuja.

    Your Excellency, Sir,

A SAVE OUR SOUL LETTER; BEING AN APPEAL TO MR. PRESIDENT TO PREVAIL ON THE GOVERNORS OF THE SOUTH-EAST FROM CARRYING OUT THEIR PLAN TO REMOVE THE POSITION OF THE NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF THE PEOPLES’ DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) FROM THE SOUTH-EAST ZONE: A RESOLUTION OF THE ALLIANCE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC FREEDOM OF THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH-EAST ZONE(ADFSEP)

We the undersigned persons, being members of Alliance for the Democratic Freedom of the South-East People (ADFSEP) do pray you in the name of God Almighty, whose love is your strength, upon whose mercy and divine protection you overcome your enemies and whose support you wholly depend for success in April, 2011 poll, wisdom and energy to continue to rule the great people of Nigeria, to plead with our brother Governors from the South-East Zone to allow a person from the zone, even if the person is their son, wife or relation to replace Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, as the National Chairman of PDP, as Your Excellency had in your good heart directed.

We also most respectfully plead with the great, just and humane members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) whose love for fairness, decency and party discipline had made them remain faithful to their decision to allow a person from the South-East zone to substitute Dr. Nwodo, who resigned under a heavy charge of misconduct and gross incompetence. We recognize that the Great God, Your Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and our great party, PDP have entrusted an enormous responsibility on the people of the South-East by giving us the opportunity to lead the party in the elections that would transform the Presidency and take our party to another level in April.

We therefore write in appreciation and honour of this recognition and also beg you not to allow the mistakes of one or two persons to change your mind, we assure you of men and women of integrity and high moral standing who would distinguish themselves in this assignment and win back your confidence, honour and respect. To our brother Governors from the South-East, we sympathize with them and pity their sense of democracy. Democracy is not a provider of leaders’ convenience and comfort but a protector of the citizens’ rights. In fact any leader who would not manage challenges and still wish to be in power is on the express road of dictatorship. Governance rightly understood is conflict management, rights’ protection and life promotion.

The attempt to move the position of the National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), out of South-East zone would mean a vote of no confidence on the people of the zone by the party and an outright invitation for crisis by our brother Governors from the zone who initiated the move. Our reason on this is obvious. South-East Zone is highly marginalized in Nigeria. The deprivations suffered by the zone are major constitutional issues that fundamentally affect the moral health of this country. It is our hope that positions such as the national chairmanship of a ruling party like PDP would help to bring the people of the zone closer to the presidency and governmental powers and thus have the impact of reducing the heavy burden of marginalization on the zone.

May we humbly highlight few areas where the zone is short changed by the existing federal arrangement, just to call back to the memory of Your Excellency, the weight of our deprivations? Record shows that in states and local governments’ allocations and fiscal allocations in the federation, South-East is the least. North-West zone has 7 states and 180 LGAs; North-East zone 6 states and 122 LGAs; North-Central and FCT 6 states and 117 LGAs; South-West 6 states and 137 LGAs; South-South 6 states and 123 and South-East 5 states and 95 LGAs.
This means that South-East has 2 states less than North-West; one (1) state less than other zones. In the local government allocation differential, North-West has 85 LGAs more than South-East; North-East 27 LGAs more than South-East; North-Central 22 LGAs more than South-East; South-West 42 LGAs more than South-East; South-South 28. Of the 360 House of Representatives members South-East has about 42, Out of 109 Senators South-East has only 15, North-West 21 while others have 18 each.
On the sharing of N16.447 trillion from the Federation Accounts among the three tiers of government in Nigeria between 1999 and 2007, a period of eight years; South-South got N2.5 trillion, the South-West N1.410 trillion, the South-East N918 billion, the North-West N1.72 trillion, the North-East N1.169trillion and the North-Central N1.119 trillion.
Also, out of the sum of N339 billion spent on Federal Roads in Nigeria between June 1999 and September 2002, the three geo-political zones in the old North got N192 billion as against N147 billion spent in the three geo-political zones in the old South. In the area of the sum of N147 billion spent in the old South, South-South got N63 billion, South-West N54 billion and South-East N30 billion.
The breakdown of the revenue allocations differential among the zones shows that in the period between 1999-2007, South-South zone got about N1.582 trillion more than South-East, South-West N492billion more than South-East; North-West N802billion more than South-East; North-East N251billion more than South-East and North-Central N201billion more than South-East. The trend continues till date and the economic and socio-political deficits of these statistics to the people of South-East are quite disempowering.
It is most unfortunate Your Excellency that our brother Governors do not stand for us in this light. Between 2007-2010 the zone has witnessed many events that reinforced our marginalization. Aba the “Japan of Africa”; the heart beat of South-East economy has collapsed, our children stay more at home than in school on account of teachers strikes, many new born babies die in the incubators in Abakaliki and adults die in numbers because of doctors’ strikes which has resumed this year, our roads and economic life are in shamble, more local wars and communal clashes occurred in the zone in 2007 and 2010 than in 1999-2007. Strange enough these facts do not bother our brother Governors. Their reoccupation is to banish all manner of challenges and wield unaccountable powers even scrumptiously.

Your Excellency, we observe with great concern that the tendency to aggrandize powers by Governors is more in the period between 2007 and 2011 than any other in the entire democratic history of our country. The Governors select Counsellors and Chairmen of the various wards and local governments in their states; appoint the floor functionaries of the legislative arm of the local governments; decide which local government chairmen will lead the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON). The Governors select the Honourable Members of State House of Assemblies in their states and also form their floor functionaries. They select the Judges, Magistrates and Customary Court members in their states and determine the judicial operations. They still exercise their prerogatives in the appointments of commissioners and the executive aids.

The Governors also select the officers of the party in their various states, wards and local governments. With this the exercise monopoly power in the selection of the Honourable Members of Federal House of Representatives and Senators from their states. They also have jurisdiction on whom to be appointed Minister, Special Assistant, Special Adviser, Ambassador, Board Chairmen and Members of States and Federal Agencies, National Party Officers from their states. They also decide on any contract and contractor from the presidency on any projects in their states. They share the States and Local Government Allocations through the operations of the joint account system and through the administration of the ALMIGHTY Governors Forum take over the national party administration, directs EFCC and ICPC in their operations; legislate for the National Assembly. In fact, it is their desire to have all decisions at the Presidency to await their gratuitous input.

The system of imperial Governors that is inaugurated and made effective in our political life has significantly altered the constitutional arrangement in this country. The constitutional separation of powers, checks and balances and the rule of laws which form the high pillars of democracy are inexorably banished in all the states in the federation. The current gravitation of power into the hands of the Governors at the expense of the Presidency and the people is a phenomenon so fatuous as to be incredible if the facts were not so patent. But the blunt truth is that Governors are completely unable technically, politically, spiritually- to give the Nigerian people the kind of leadership essential to the transformation of this country.

Your Excellency’s experiment to cooperate with the Governors based on the circumstances of the time has failed miserably. Some actions of the Governors even though validated by the contemporary imperatives and imponderables of the time do not and cannot constitute a legitimate power constitutionally guaranteed and made even permanent in its use. The Governors continuously it seemed relentlessly, to accumulate power at the expense of the Presidency, the People and Democracy. Nigeria under the current disposition, Your Excellency, is said to have entered into the age of solipsistic Governors. Mr. President, it is time to re-assert the legitimate prerogatives of the presidential office or take the risk of being cocooned into a confederate parchment.

At the risk of repetition, we make firm to state that the actions of the Governors are grossly offensive to democracy, national interest and public will and it has a great potential import to the prospect of Nigerian democracy. We express foreboding over the future of this vague, undefined and indefinable Governors’ dictatorial powers that tend to humble and most ostensibly dwarf the latitude of powers of the Presidency.

Our plan Your Excellency is to encourage the people of South-East Zone to employ their sovereign power of last resort and pour into the streets to resist this relentless powers of the South-East Governors should they succeed in moving the position of the National Chairman of PDP away from the South-East and thus prevent the people of the zone from playing a leading role in the transformation of Your Presidency come April, 2011. But due to our interest in the new Nigeria project you are anchoring, our knowledge of the great efforts of the owls of the night to prevent the coming morning of our joy; we therefore decide to appeal to you to use Your Good Offices to prevail on our brother Governors to please jettison their unscrupulous move to upturn the decision of the party and disregard your kind disposition towards South-East Zone.

However, if they refuse your presidential appeal on our part which is very unlikely, we may be forced to mobilize the people of the South-East States, those within the states, those within Nigeria and in the Diaspora for grand rallies of civil disobedience in the zone beginning March 1, 2011. We will publish or cause to be published detailed items of illegal expenditure of all the states in the papers and in the internet; we will lead the people to block all the streets in peaceful demonstration. But our fear is that while we educate and direct the people on peaceful conduct the situation may play into the hands of unscrupulous people and the consequences may be ugly, both to the people, the Governors of the South-East and the nation in general. When it would happen, if man refuse to stand by us, our cause and God Almighty definitely will stand by us.

We kindly submit to the supreme protection of God the peace and unity of Nigeria, the success of April 2011 general elections, the safety of your life and that of other Nigerians; we look forward with gratification your epoch making performance and wonderful outcome of your Presidency in the years ahead.

    Thank you Mr. President.

    Chief Okpani Otu
    National Coordinator,
    ADFSEP.

  77. I strongly suggest that for you to break the anti-Northern Nigerian campaign by those who hope to benefit from that miss-information project, please ensure the immediate implementation of the Hagen Desert Farming Project in the 19 Northern states and Abuja. This is the Euro 2 billion valued project to be funded by a European licensed Humanitarian Foundation for which your predecessor in office signed an MOU with a German firm since 2008 but which has suffered inexplicable bureaucratic delays.

  78. Dear Mr. President,

By April 2, 2011, Your Excellency would have been given the authority by the good people of Nigeria to supervise the affairs of our great country for the four years that draw its end in 2015. In this eventful tenure, your distinction would not come by imitating other presidents that have governed this nation but from contrasting with them in many fundamental respects. Otherwise you would earn mediocrity following their footsteps. However, excellent and immortal approval will follow if you take your vision and guide your steps in accord with the temper of the world drawing your foundation upon the discreet need of the people: the need to make this country a production economy, a self-sustaining economy and not a sharing and corrupt brooding nest; for glory lies in the work of man. The key to the transition into a production economy hinges on a platform policy systems. The current policy path is a native environment to corruption and also prone to outside manipulations.

    Thank you.

  79. My name is Nnamdi Kenneth, i am a student of ebonyi state unversity, i made a new discovery on using magnet as a source of fuel for powering a car. Mr. President, need your help in creating this awareness.

Nigeria must be good for all, this the apointed time, and God is at work for He has heard the cry of his people: No one is sleeping now, last time it was egypt, now lybia, people has to be free and live a normal life. Nigeria is among the chosen country that God Almighty wants to liberate from hardship and from the hands of criminals. since 1960 up to date nigerian government has been in the wrong hands. And now the prayers of the innocent ones has been heard, Dr. jonathan Goodluck Ebere, the Almighty Jehova God has appointed you to do this work, and we hope you will listen to the voice of God Almighty than the voice of men: people are suffering in Nigeria, not to talk about our brothers and sisters that left Nigeria to other countries, if you ask them to explain what they go through everyday in their life, you will cry. Please We all know that it will be hard, but by faith trusting God walking with him side by side you will make it and lead us to that promise land. we want our country to be fine so that all of us outside will come home work and pay our taxes to our own motherland. than to remain slave outside. At the same time we ask all Nigerians outside to join hands together to see that Nigeria became a better place for all. God is out to help us but we have to help ourself too.

Sir, here are some genuine idea of how to contribute in my own little way of developing the nation.
1.Sir, i have an idea of how to create ten million jobs, for ten million people in Nigeria and this jobs can be created under three months before your 100days in office will yield money for both the government and the people.
    2. Agriculture: Sir, it is easy for nigeria, to make money through agriculture. Sir, there is a way in which it can be done and a better thing can be gotten from it.
    3.About police
    4. Also, about corruption. that’s how to get to the root of corruption in Nigeria, i have an idea about it.
    5. Sir, i also have an idea about water for every family in Nigeria in their home, and get potable water without going round the neighbourhood and also government can gain from it. this can be done under your two years in office Sir.
6.In the case of NACA, I have an idea which will aviod stress for the mummy of the nation.
    7. Most i,portantly, in the area of violence and how to handle violence in Nigeria.
If you can do all this Sir you have save Nigeria from hunger.
After searching long without sucess, i have finally found one man in a thousand working to become upright. Sir, that man is you.

  95. THE SINGLE TERNURE BILL: PRESIDENT JONATHAN SAVE YOURSELF FROM SUSPICION.
Mr. President, we wish you assess the feeling environment and take pain to know what an average Nigerian expects from the government now. That would demonstrate a spirit of good governance. The people want you to deliver on your electoral promises of constant and uninterrupted power supply, poverty eradication, provision of key infrastructure, generation of employment opportunities, quality education, quality health services, etc. They want to experience a viable and strong national economy, prosperity, improved life for the citizens and social security.
These things are not beyond the capacity of the government to provide. Perhaps what Mr. President needs most is the political will to curb high degree of indiscipline and corruption in the government that hurt governance. And until it is checked no EFCC, ICPC, Court or measure would deter the high cost of running government in Nigeria.
Mr. President, your proposed SINGLE TENURE BILL may clearly be for the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians but it is coming at a time that majority of Nigerians do not care or feel for such discussion. It is bound to suffer misinterpretations and unmerited suspicion. Rather than dissipate energy and strain your reputation, we humbly suggest you concentrate on the task of transforming the system to restore peoples’ confidence in government.
Mr. President your presidency could be a watershed in Nigeria’s history. Nigeria is well endowed with natural and human resources for you to make a difference. It would be tragic to waste this golden opportunity. Your mission in governance cannot be accomplished by taking the same route used by others before you. You are truly special and we urge you to make efforts to find out that unique track that would lead you to greatness.
You are in fact favoured by nature but you have to make up your mind on what you really want in governance. If you want the effervescence of power, you already have it but if you want greatness then, be focused: work for it.
    Thank you.

  97. My fello Nigerians, I am confused some tiems when I read and listen to what my brothers and sisters do write to the president and to his office: Obi has been a boy since 1960 my question is , when is Obi going to be a man? why can we get someone out of the whole nigerians that can help and make things move well for the whole nation? you see” it is too bad for some one to die with the same sickness that killed his his father, these old people (old eggs)tha is holding Nigerians captive for years now. they promise the Nigerians heaven and earth to win their votes and when they cross the bridge they forget their words and start to do what they seems good for them and their clubs. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! The Almighty Jehova God is never happy. by now we could have been looking forward to see the fruits of the new born government in Nigeria. why must we be like this. Please if you You know that you are among the government or holding any post in the Nigerian government, you better start now to think possitive. Nigerians are not happy any more . you have to do to others what you will like them to do to you.
God bless you all. long live Nigeria.

  98. Nigeria Embassey in Rome is a confussion. The date for interview for new e-passport is not regarded by our Embassey in Rome. They preffer their own appointment date so that they have their bribe. We want President Jonathan to do something about this. We are Nigerians in Italy, that the Embassey is supposed to stand for and represent in Italy. We are tired of our Embassey in Rome; helppppppppppppppp us Mr. President.
    Thank you.

    • Good day,
I’d like to comment about the NIgerian Embassey here in Italy.
Things are usually hard and fustrating, whenever you wanna surmit your passport for renewal, or whenever you wanna withdraw your passport, you must at least give them something in order not to go there for fun.Usually there are almost 100 people at the embassey a day,and they don’t come from the same place, they come from different places, some have to travell for 5 hours or more, before they get to the embassey; and when they get there trouble starts.
For instance, if someone sumits his/her passport on the 25th of january 2011, they’ll give the fellow an appointment 2012, or after seven months, and it’s not suppost to be so.
What I’d advice is to send capable people, people thet are Godfearing, sincere, faithful to the government and to Nigerians, people that are trustworthy, cause we Nigerians here in Italy are fedup with the so call workers at the embassey.
And another thing you could do is to make arrangment for another Nigerian embassey in Italy to make it two branch.
Thank you so much Mr. President
