The Cape Town Internet Exchange (CINX) has expanded to a fourth location, opening a new point of presence at Teraco CT2, a Digital Realty facility in Brackenfell, Cape Town, South Africa.

Internet Exchange Association of South Africa (INX-ZA), which operates CINX, announced the expansion on 5 March 2026. The organisation said the move responds to growing demand from network operators seeking peering options across multiple sites in the city.

First-year port fees waived

To encourage adoption, INX-ZA is waiving port fees at the CT2 location for the first year.

“We give operators the freedom to connect on their terms. That is the economy we are building towards,” Edrich De Lange, chair of INX-ZA, said. “More locations, more opportunities, and a stronger Cape Town as a digital hub.”

Cape Town’s growing digital footprint

The expansion reflects Cape Town’s increasing importance as a digital infrastructure hub. International connectivity to the city has improved with new subsea cable landings, and data centre operators have been expanding capacity to meet rising demand from technology firms basing operations in the Western Cape.

South Africa’s internet exchange ecosystem has seen sustained growth in recent years. NAPAfrica, the country’s largest exchange, crossed 5 Tbps of peak traffic in 2025, while new exchanges have launched in smaller cities such as Gqeberha.
