Google Checkout and Paypal Express Checkout; Very convenient

Not long after Google announced and launched their Google Checkout offering that Paypal increased the speed at which they introduced innovations. I dealt more with the Google/Paypal comparison in an earlier post.

The essence of this post however, is to highlight the fact that some online shoppers would by far prefer using the checkout services, to splashing their personal contact and credit/debit card details all over the web. The definition of Google Checkout below, sourced from WikiPedia describes what many of these checkout services are about:

Google Checkout is an online payment processing service provided by Google aimed at simplifying the process of paying for online purchases. Users store their credit or debit card and shipping information in their Google Account, so that they can purchase at participating stores at the click of a button. Google Checkout also offers fraud protection, as well a unified page for tracking purchases and their status.

Paypal’s tagline says it all concisely: “Send Money. Not your financial information”.

Though I have never signed-up for Google Checkout (Paypal currently meets all my needs), I support the principle behind the services. To the extent that I no longer sign-up with shops just so that I could buy a particular product. After all, many of these online websites/stores do not have a means by which I can delete my personal details whenever I decide to stop using them.
