Microsoft has released Windows 10 May 2019 update to some users. The update is rolling out to select users at the moment, and to those who are part of the Windows Insider Program.
Microsoft is rolling the update gradually to make it installable for computers that are least likely to have any problems. Once this is done, it will slowly increase the level of availability to other users. As this is happening, Microsoft will be monitoring feedback from users to ensure users experience no issues.
“We will be taking a measured and throttled approach, allowing us to study device health data as we increase availability via Windows Update,” Microsoft said.
“Windows 10 May 2019 Update through the Windows Insider Program’s Release Preview ring to focus on and improve quality. Based on positive data and the feedback we’ve seen from this longer preview phase; I’m pleased today to share that we are beginning to make the Windows 10 May Update available. We will be taking a measured and throttled approach, allowing us to study device health data as we increase availability via Windows Update. This post will provide details on how you can get the May 2019 Update, including update options. I’ll also cover how commercial organizations can begin targeted deployments and offer insight into how we’re increasing transparency with the full launch of the new Windows health dashboard,” said John Cable, Director of Program Management, Windows Servicing and Delivery.
Alongside the release, Microsoft is also launching a new Windows release health dashboard that offers status on the rollout and any known issues for the May 2019 Update and other monthly updates. This is all part of Microsoft being more careful with its last-minute testing and being more transparent on issues after the previous October 2018 update hit some file deletion issues.
Recently, Microsoft promised more transparency with major Windows 10 updates and the introduction of the Windows release health dashboard is part of that.
Users can check whether the update is available to them by heading to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
