The website of Mobitel Ghana was down for some weeks, recently. There was a notice at the URL – www.mobitelnet.com – UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Obviously, the website was being re-designed. Now, the new web site is complete, and it looks good.
Though the new site still makes use of frames, its looks much better, and provides more useful information about Buzz GSM and Mobitel GSM. One can only hope that the new site would be regularly updated. The old one was hardly ever updated and very difficult to navigate.
Conspicuously missing on the new website is a Press Release/News section. I usually have to scout for news, for Mobile Africa but the absence of a news section on Mobitel Ghana’s website would only make things a bit more difficult for folks like me.
I must add here that Mobitel has really given a stiff competition to Areeba Ghana. It took the arrival of Buzz GSM for mobile telephony to be revolutionized as we have it in Ghana, today. The recent stunts by Kasapa and Onetouch GSM makes the competition even more exciting. There is no hiding the fact that Mobitel is a force to reckon with, in the Ghana’s mobile telephony sub-sector.
The first phone number I ever got was from Buzz GSM and I have still kept it because of some value added services one enjoys on Buzz GSM but not on Areeba – for me, Call Forwarding and free voicemail retrieval.
Mobitel recently erected a mast close to where I stay, and service has since improved tremendously. I can only wait to see what 2006 offers mobile telephony in Ghana. 🙂
KEEP IT UP
