Areeba Ghana’s Free GPRS – an end in sight

An end is in sight to the free GPRS being offered by Areeba Ghana. A test mode of Areeba’s GPRS was launched in November 2004, and has since been available to selected subscribers.

A full page advertisement in yesterday’s Daily Graphic reads:

My network gives me GPRS

Test phase is over. Launch phase begins.
We trust that over the past year, some of you have experienced firsthand, the value of mobile Internet.
From March, all Areeba customers can access the GPRS facility.
GPRS, first in Ghana and only from Areeba.
For more information, dial 111.

Well, yours truly happens to be one of the selected few, who have been able to enjoy Areeba’s freebie, while it lasted.

    Good though but do we have to say subscription fee in order to use this service? None of the networks in Ghana charges any subscription fee and it makers things easier than with MTN.

    this has been and still is my position on this. No subscription fee should be charged for the use of the service.

    Comparing subscription fee of sim cards years ago to now, one can realise that its almost free now. When there were limited users of mobile phones, sim cards were limited and sold at a high price. Now with the aboundance of users, subscription is diminishing so quick.
    I therefore conclude with this; as was the revolution of sim cards and mobile phones, so should GPRS be. Farewell
