From one city to three in 12 months. Spanish delivery platform Glovo celebrated its first anniversary in Nigeria with a stakeholder event in Abuja, Nigeria, on 22 September 2022, outlining plans for further expansion.

Since entering the Nigerian market, Glovo has expanded operations across Lagos, Abuja, and Ibadan, with a vision to reach additional cities in the coming years.

Rider training partnership with GIZ

A highlight of the anniversary event was the announcement of a courier training programme in collaboration with GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit) under the VET Toolbox Initiative. The programme aims to professionalise skills development for delivery riders in Nigeria, with a target of training at least 300 riders on Glovo’s platform.

“We are excited and honoured to celebrate the first year of Glovo in Nigeria,” Lorenzo Mayol, General Manager for Glovo Nigeria, said. “Nigeria is a key market for us due to its high and untapped potential and rapid growth, and the partnerships we have built so far have become a metaphor for endless possibilities.”

Regulatory engagement

The event was attended by the General Manager of NIPOST’s Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department, representatives from the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, and other key stakeholders. Glovo used the occasion to recognise partners and couriers who contributed to its growth during the first year.

The company said it remains committed to delivering value to users, couriers, and the Nigerian economy as it enters its second year of operations.
