How petty can a government get?

The news that the current Vice President of Nigeria (Atiku Abubakar) is being asked to leave his official residence within Aso Rock under the pretext of a renovation for me is the height of pettiness. How petty can a government get?

Of course, this is not the first time I am hearing that the building he occupies is really meant for the Chief Justice of the Federation, but the timing of this  “eviction” is definately wrong.

According to BBC News:

[…]”The current residence of the vice-president was designed to be that of the Chief Justice of Nigeria,” minister for the capital Nasir el-Rufai told reporters in Abuja.

But Mr Abubakar’s spokesman says the vice-president is being victimised.

“What renovation are they talking about? They are not being honest, I tell you. They are giving us ‘a quit notice’ without really coming out to say so,” Garba Shehu told the BBC’s News website.

“They started by sacking all the domestic staff of vice-president. How can you live in a house where there are no cooks, no cleaners, nothing? […]

Atiku Abubakar has been subjected to one witch-hunt after the other, after he openly kicked against the “term elongation” of President Obasanjo. I am not a fan of any of them, but I believe this latest move by the Federal government of Nigeria (led by Obasanjo) is just too petty.

God have mercy on Nigeria and Nigerians. What’s your thought?
