Like many of Sir Richard Branson’s enterprises, Virgin Money has been launched in South Africa just one week after the launch of Virgin Mobile.

Virgin Money essentially offers permanent South African residents who earn over R2,500 (about USD 360) a Mastercard credit card.

Users can use the card to pay at stores in South Africa, and withdraw funds from Mastercard-marked ATMs across South Africa and the rest of the world.

Virgin Money has partnered with ABSA (a South African bank) and offers users flexible means of trnsfering funds to their credit card account, inclduing Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).

According to Virgin Money’s website,

Forget the words keep it in your pants. Just whip out your Virgin Money Credit Card and you’re a rock star. Your Virgin Money Credit Card is your backstage pass to a world of benefits and sweet deals. You automatically become a member of our Virgin Money VIP programme the moment you receive your Virgin Money Credit Card and it is ABSOLUTELY free!

Other Virgin businesses in South Africa are: Virgin Active (health and fitness centre), Virgin Atlantic (international airline), Virgin Cosmetics, Virgin Mobile (a mobile virtual network piggy-backing on Cell C), Ulusaba (safari lodge), Virgin Unite (charitable arm of the Virgin Group).

User enjoy various levels of discounts, when they patronize other Virgin businesses using the Virgin Money credit card.

    You’re a permanent South African resident with green bar-coded ID

    For the first 3 months you only pay 0% interest, and after that we still give you a good deal at 15.75%
    We also pay you to save – 5% on all positive balances
    No annual card fees
