Meta is rolling out a suite of new monetisation tools for creators on Instagram and Facebook, including cross-platform Reels payments, a creator marketplace, and expanded digital collectables.
“We’re heading towards a future where more people can do creative work they enjoy, and I want platforms like ours to play a role in making that happen,” Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO, said.
Reels and creator marketplace
Meta is expanding the Reels Play bonus programme to more creators and allowing them to cross-post Instagram Reels to Facebook and monetise on both platforms. A new creator marketplace will help brands discover and pay creators for partnerships.
Digital collectables and NFTs
The company is expanding its test of digital collectables on Instagram, allowing more creators worldwide to display NFTs. The feature will extend to Facebook for a small group of US creators initially, with cross-posting between platforms. Meta also said it would test NFTs in Instagram Stories with SparkAR.
Facebook Stars expansion
Facebook Stars, virtual items that allow fans to support creators financially, is being opened to any creator with at least 1,000 followers over the past 60 days in regions where the feature is available. Meta also announced the return of Stars Fest, a month-long celebration running from 15 June to 15 July 2022.
Additionally, Meta is introducing interoperable subscriptions, allowing creators to give paying subscribers access to exclusive content across both Facebook and Instagram.
