It is commonplace for the different tiers of government and their institutions in Nigeria, to be using generic top-level domains, especially .com, .net and .org I find this completely un-acceptable. I am of the opinion that there should be a legislation, forcing the Presidency and all other government institutions, to use .ng domains.
Note that Nigeria Direct (the official portal of the Federal government of Nigeria – nigeria.gov.ng) has a .ng domain and so does Lagos State (lagosstate.gov.ng) and some other state government websites.
.ng is the country-code top-level domain (cc-TLD) for the Federal Republic of Nigeria and has not witnessed any wide-spread use. Indeed, most companies, organizations and individuals in Nigeria, already use .com domains before the Federal government could standardize the use of .ng domains, in 2006.
A case in point is Oyo State. The government website was at oyostate.gov.ng Later moved to oyostategov.com (for whatever reason). Now the .com domain name has expired and the official website of the government of Oyo State is displaying Google Ads.
This is shameful. What do you think?
