The WordPress community returns to Masaka for the fourth edition of WordCamp Masaka, the volunteer-run open-source conference, on Saturday 4 July 2026. The single-day event in southern Uganda has emerged as the most consistent African WordCamp, anchored by a local volunteer corps and the WordPress Foundation’s underwriting model. Early-bird tickets are open at UGX 20,000 to 30,000, and the call for speakers closes on 30 May 2026.
Organiser and audience
WordCamp Masaka is organised by Ugandan WordPress contributors under sanction from the WordPress Foundation, the US non-profit that stewards the open-source publishing platform globally. Organisers project 400 or more attendees, 10 or more speakers, and 2 workshops scheduled across talks, panel discussions and hands-on tracks. The audience profile spans developers, designers, agency owners and entrepreneurs running WordPress sites for African businesses.
Theme and programme
The 2026 theme, “Building Inclusive Digital Economies”, anchors the agenda around access, skills and sustainability in African online business. Sessions cover WordPress fundamentals, plugin and theme development, WooCommerce e-commerce, agency operations, and community building. Tickets include access to all sessions, networking and meals. Speakers confirmed for the 2025 edition included Bami Iroko, Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, and Samuel Osei; the 2026 line-up is still being assembled through the open call.
Sponsors and the global programme
WordCamps sit inside a global community programme that has run more than 1,200 events across 75 cities in 60 countries since 2006. The Masaka edition draws on a sponsor stack that includes Automattic-owned WordPress.com and Jetpack, web host Hostinger, e-commerce platform WooCommerce, web host Bluehost and page-builder Elementor. Sponsorship spending stays inside ceilings set by the WordPress Foundation to keep WordCamps community-led rather than vendor-led.
East African cadence
WordCamp Masaka 2026 sits in a steady East African WordPress cadence that, on the continent, traces back to WordCamp Cape Town in 2011 and the more recent WordCamp Johannesburg in 2019. The Masaka programme, now in its fourth year, has emerged as the most consistent African instance. Registration is open via the event ticket page.
