SMART TV, Ghana’s latest digital terrestrial television service launches

SMART TV, a new digital terrestrial television service was launched today by Next Generation Broadcasting (NGB) in collaboration with Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). The service would witness a commercial roll-out come May 2010.

According to Citi FM Online:

The station would offer both pay-TV service and free-to-air service of existing local stations on the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) network.
SMART TV will initially air in Accra and Kumasi and would later be extended to other regions in Ghana in the near future.
The TV station belongs to a Swedish multinational company called Next Generation Broadcasting (NGB) which is partnering Fox International Channel as the only platform to provide Fox Entertainment in Ghana.

Pricing for the SMART TV digibox would start from GHC 89.

The features of the new service as advertised by SMART TV are as follows:

Smart mix of local and international content
Affordable monthly subscription of GHC19
Convenient and easy to install
Crystal clear picture and sound quality
Electronic Programme Guide to plan your viewing

The TV channels advertised are:

Foreign: FOX, Showtime, Star, TRACE Tropical, Setanta Africa, BBC News, HiNolly, HomeBase, GOD TV, Kids
Local: NET2, Viasat1, TV3 Ghana, GTV and TV Africa.

Smart TV is set to launch in Kenya and Uganda later this year.

skyy digital is now better than multi tv and smarttv they have add more channels and three to four epl matches a day on delay basis…champions league and la liga all on skyy get yours to day…….call 0206694141

I really love smart TV and all the channels on it…I’ll like to know if there’s gonna be a day to come for u guys to charge it’s uses extra user bills or it’s gonna be forever free ones u purchase….

Some of your channels have it audio sounding MONO..instead of it being stereo..eg ‘Music,eG, and Entertainment…this hampers the quality audio output on-like Hi nolly and ASN…when are u gonna correct that hitch….????

i am one of the uses of smart tv in ghana as said sometime ago after finishing installation of one of your transmion lines we likely to receive tv3 and most likely metro tv but this has not become fruition,pls why?

  Hello. Smart Tv is now skyy plus. It is an 18 channel pay tv service now. You can buy a decoder at Cadmus near Rabito clinic at Osu RE.

please boss I’m about to be disapointed of your service ‘Smart Tv’,why all those I introduced them are blaming me,please what shoul I say,,I get only 10channels and 6 not my favorite so like if I would have had what you promised I will be happy,one of friend get only 4 channels at macCathy hill,as for me I’m at kasoa.be bless

  Hello Kwakye, You need a good digital antenna raised up at least 6 feet above your roof to get the whole Smart TV now skyy plus.
  Six new channels have been added now. The cost of the antenna is Ghc25.00 and is available at Cadmus Osu. Hope you get it right.

@ spencer, wat r de new channels dat has bin added cos wen i scan my decoder wat i get are repeated channels. i have de smart tv antenna which i bought 4rm ur office a few months back. spencer, wen did smart tv become sky plus? subscribers were nt informed abt any changes, pls update me, and also how can i scan my decoder manually?

The new channels are Cinemax a drama, series and movie channel, D – a governance and reality channel on governance ,parliaments etc.Also included are Skyy One , Skyy world,Fiesta, and Emmanuel Tv. @spencer, wen i scan my box sumtyms i get cinemax n fiesta but without pictures. As 4 è oda channels i dnt get dem @ all. Pls help me out. N boss, r u aware of dem get’n more sports channels unto deir platform? Cos wat dey r currently giv’n 2 subscribes is a big insult. If dey tink we wl pay dat 19 GH 4 deir current content den dey must b jok’n. Even multi tv subscibers who dnt pay a dime get la liga, french lge 1, German lge, UEFA n Europa leagues on deir box.

  The channels are scrambled because their providers prefer you bought their own decoders, to be able to watch those channels.

I RELY ENJOY THE SMART TV AND THE ONLY PROBLEM THAT AM FACING IS REPEATATION IS TOO MUCH, SPECIALLY HOMEBASE AND HI NOLLY AND HOW IS THAT THE SMART TV CHANNEL DOES IT SHOW UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND I RELY WANT TO FOUND IT AND THE ANSWER SHOULD SEND TO MY E-MAIL.

Please for about closed to two years now in the Ashanti Region the signal has been taken off, your office here has been closed. l was one of the numerous agent who distributed the smart tv here in kumasi. No call for alarm, No awareness. it’s seems like you just taken us for granted, took our money then left just like that….. Your fone lines has been disconnected as well…. Please where ever Smart tv company are the decoders is useless for us, tell us where we should dump it because the Peoples of the Ashanti kingdom don’t want your services anymore.
