Bayelsa State Government website, my opinion

Bayelsa state government has in recent times been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Just a few minutes ago, while I was reading an article about the recent unpleasant events in Nigeria on New York Times’ website, I came across a link to the website of the Government of Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

The website looks good at first glance, with the picture of the embattled Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha displayed gallantly on the homepage.

An array of links are displayed on the left, and interestingly, the website even has a mobile version. 🙂
This is cool. I’m yet to test it on my mobile, though.

The website features News, Government info, Governor, Deputy Governor, Culture, Media, Tourism, mobile version, Local Government Areas, Women, a chat room, Investments, Sports, Environment, Commerce and education.

What I find unplesant though, is the fact that much of the website is in Flash format. I’m sure the designers don’t know a thing about Search Engine Optmization, neither do they know that not everyone has the flash plug-in installed.

And lest I forget, the web address is http://www.bayelsagov.com/ and the mobile version is at http://www.bayelsagov.com/pg.html

In all, its a good effort. Thumbs up.
