The Associated Press reports that the first flight for Pet Airways, the first-ever all-pet airline, took off from Republic Airport in Farmingdale, New York, USA on Tuesday.
According to Wikipedia: Claimed to be the first airline designed specifically for pets, the company was founded by Dan Wiesel and Alysa Binder in Delray Beach, Florida, who got the idea when planning a trip with their Jack Russell Terrier.
Dan Wiesel told the BBC:
“Currently, most pets travelling by air are transported in the cargo hold and are handled as baggage. The experience is frightening to the pets, and can cause severe emotional and physical harm, even death. This is not what most pet owners want to subject their pets to, but they have had no other choice, until now.”
And now a video interview with Fox News:
I found something intriguing last night on CNN International. A 3-legged ram had been retrofitted with a machine that enabled it to walk almost normally at the cost of $2,000 to the owners. In Nigeria, that ram would have long been killed and prepared as suya (kebab)! 🙂
With human imagination everything is possible. I look forward to a time that Pets will be have their own personal yacht. As for the Ram what do you expect. A Tiv man in benue State will prepare it toeat “Ruam”. We like meat very much oo!
😀 Please tell me you’re kidding! 😀
Its funny, I however think we need to applaud the company which came up with this brilliant idea. Its an exhibition of great entrepreneurial acumen
Let’s wait and see how “this brilliant idea” will make enough money to sustain itself. I am sceptical about its sustainability.
Everything around pets is a show of class and nothing more. Its another business avenue to make money from Millionaires and Billionaires who like spending their vacations with their pets.
