Nigeria is trending again in the international news headlines for the wrong reasons. According to BBC News:
At least eight people have been killed in explosions in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, marring celebrations to mark 50 years since independence from the UK.
- Was a jamboree necessary in a country that is for all intents and purposes a failed state?
- Is there really anything to celebrate?
- Couldn’t the day have been simply marked with a very sober reflection and a resolution to rise-up from the ashes of corruption+mediocrity towards a future of accountability+excellence?
Just my random thoughts on a sad day.
Each time I said to myself things are going alright in my country NIgerian then the evil leaders will stream the medias in the world that Nigeria can never be a good country. I though the 50th anniversary will bring change in the way we do things just to see another bombing headline spreading in the news in Nigeria, Africa, and around the world about the greatest reputation the Nigerian Evil Doers hold for our beloved Country. I hurt deep down my soul to read about this unforeseen evil act by a hidden leader lying some where to spoil the reputation of the presence government.
I personally do not see why Nigerians cannot for once celebrate being a country with prospects, rather than all the gloom and doom. I feel and have heard it said by many other Nigerians that it was good to celebrate turning 50 despite all the sad and bad that has happened. Sad that the bombing took place, and even sadder the loss of lives of innocent Nigerians.
I think its time to pray for our country not insult.and let God choose good leaders for us in 2010 elections.
Amen.
