I have had to blog a few times about domain names of important Nigerian institutions expiring. I never imagined that a day would come when I would blog about a bank not renewing its domain name on time.
I am talking about UBA PLC’s ubaplc.com domain name. I wanted to check their website this morning for a list of their branches in Nigeria and was shocked when my web browser was redirected to some external page full of ads and a statement showing the domain expired.
According to the ABOUT US page on their website:
Today, the consolidated UBA is the largest financial services institution in West Africa with a balance sheet size in excess of One Trillion Naira (under USD8b) and more than six million (6m) customer accounts, operating out of the 2 most vibrant economies in the sub-region – Nigeria and Ghana. It has over six hundred and thirty (630) retail distribution centres across Nigeria, its main operational base, and 8 branches in Ghana. Outside Africa, it also has presence in New York and Cayman Island.
For a corporation this big to have their domain expired, its a shame.
Well, their website is still accessible from another domain name: ubagroup.com but they still link to ubaplc.com from there.
That is a shame. You wonder what their IT and communications departments were doing. Preparing to watch the cup of nations?
why are you surprised that the domain is down? It just shows their lack of organisation. I really pity the head of IT or the person in charge ‘cos he might loose his job. Anyway, it seems the domain is back online now
Dear Mr. Ajao:
I am tryin to access ubagroupintl.com. Two weeks ago their website was sort of complete with email address and telephone numbers. I did not notice until today that there i another ubagroup which seems to have a complete details of their banking system. Now I am wondering if there is really a ubagroupintl.com as they do not really have a website which seems inconsistent with a big bank. Would you know if a certain Jonathan Abbott and Ms, Sausanne Weeks are connected with UBA Accra, Ghana. This is really important for us.
Thank you. Ms. Juliana Santos
@Pace, the domain is back but no one will be fired. I can tell you that for free.
@Juliana Santos, I have responded to your email.
Niyi,
I agree with you that nobody will be fired. It just shows what is happening within OUR organisations.
The auhthentic site is ubagroup.com and not ubagroupintl.com. Please take note!
