Google has today announced a new referral system for its Google Adsense program. I first knew of this when I attempted to log-in to my Adsense account this evening. 🙂 After entering my log-in details, an updated version of their terms and conditions appeared. I read through the first few paragraphs and saw a paragraph about referrals. I chuckled.
After login, I noticed a new tab on Google Adsense tagged “Referrals”. Clicking on the tab revealed HTML codes that could be placed on web pages and result in Google Adsense referral banners being displayed.
An hour or so later, I accessed one of my email accounts, and there was an email from Google Adsense, reading:
“Hello,
You’re receiving this email because you’ve expressed interest in becoming a Google Referral Partner for AdSense.
As you know, the Google Referral Partner Program has been invitation-only for some time. This is because we’ve been hard at work building the best possible AdSense referral system for our partners. Now, we’re happy to announce that this new system is finally ready. And we’d love to have you refer AdSense publishers to us using our new system.
Here’s what you’ll find when you use the new AdSense referral system:
- Easy, on-demand access to referral reports and signup statistics through your AdSense account interface.
- Convenient and transparent payouts: We’ll credit your payouts directly to your AdSense account so you can see exactly how much you’re earning every day.
- More ways to earn money: You’ll earn US$100 (credited to your AdSense account) for every AdSense publisher you refer who signs up and earns US$100. In addition, when a user you’ve referred to Firefox plus Google Toolbar runs Firefox for the first time, you’ll receive US$1 in your account.”
Wow! This is indeed very exciting… I copied one of the HTML code styles and would use them later.
Thumbs up for you Google. You got it right again, this time.
This sounds good coming from Google; I just hope there is no hidden surprises there.
Hidden surprise turned out to be that less than 3 years later, Google has closed the programme. 🙁 I made a few dollars from it before then.
A bit weird for Google to not secure the application form
