“Diepreye Alamieyeseigha impeached; arrested; refuses to eat”
What a way to write! This is quite a mouthful. Now, lets take this one by one.
Last Friday, then Governor of Bayelsa state of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was impeached by the State’s House of Assembly, and promptly arrested by the Nigeria Police.

The news this morning is that the old man is refusing to eat, suspecting the police of being in a plot to poison him. I ask, poison him for what? If they could have poisoned him, why go through the rigour of having him impeached? Why bother. I guess Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is only just holding-on to a straw, while sinking fast into deeper waters of trouble. Trouble he brought upon himself.

This is great. Someone should tell us, is he the very first governor inNigeria to be impeached. I am just curious. If so, there’s perhaps some hope for democracy here.

Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is not the first governor to be impeached in Nigeria. The first to be impeached is Governor Balarabe Musa of Kaduna state in 1981.
